The United States Department of Commerce announced late last week that they would proceed with an administrative review to increase the tariffs on Canadian lumber shipments from 9% to 17.9%.
In response to that action, the Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ delivered a letter to Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo opposing the increased tariffs and calling for a renewed urgency towards reaching a long-term Softwood Lumber Agreement (SLA) with Canada.
A new SLA would bring stability and predictability to the pricing and availability of softwood lumber. The Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ stands ready to work with the Biden Administration to help support initiatives that will lead to a negotiated agreement as soon as possible.
